What is a Healing Crisis?
A client may experience a slight reaction to their first Reiki treatment and this can be looked upon as being positive since Reiki has the possibility to unblock things. The healing crisis is the body's way of dealing with this reaction.
Possible reactions a client can experience after a treatment can range from slight shivers (which could then change into a nice feeling of warmth after 10 minutes), the need to use the bathroom more, hunger, thirst, headaches, pressure in the head, a feeling of tiredness and/or being over emotional.
Drinking plenty of water can help this period pass by assisting the flushing of toxins from the body quicker. The client may also benefit from lying down and relaxing for the rest of the day if possible.
A healing crisis will normally only last for 12-24 hours following a treatment. Subsequent treatments should show little, or no, healing crisis symptoms.
A client may have no reaction at all but this does not mean that the healing has not taken place. It is simply that the person may be more used to energy (for instance, they may do meditation or yoga or have had other alternative therapies in the past) and their body has adapted.
