What are Protection Exercises and when should I use them?

When people work in a person's aura and as their empathy and awareness of senses develops, some practitioners may find that they sense ailments on their bodies that they know are not their own and relate heavily with the client.  In these instances, the mind can be a powerful tool and if you are not mindful, you may start to find that the ailments are adopted by you and made your own.

For this reason, you should always have a very clear picture of how you feel and the state of your own health before seeing your client.  Be very positive in your work and confident that you are trying to help a person self-heal - you are not going to adopt or agree to 'take on' anything to do with the client.  This way, you are creating a distance between yourself and your life and the client and theirs.  You could call it a mental barrier.  You are still able to give treatments unhindered to help clients without the necessity to take on board their troubles as well.

Sometimes practitioners may find it difficult to maintain a positive and confident outlook and in these instances they can use a Protection Exercise.  These are not as scary as they may sound and again are purely mental exercises to help create a stronger mental barrier between you and your clients which then helps to disassociate yourself from these foreign ailments.

Many people use Protection Exercises on a regular basis, some on a daily basis and others, as mentioned above, use them as they need them.

The following simple protection exercise can be used in a variety of instances: if you are alone and feel uneasy; you find it difficult to blend with the person you are talking to; it feels like someone is draining your energy.

Balloon Protection

  • Imagine you have a lovely white or gold balloon, similar to the ones you can get with a teddy inside.  You can either leave the teddy inside or take the teddy out.

  • Now step inside the balloon.  You are cushioned by it.  The balloon still allows air in to breathe and expels your out breath.  Allows anything positive in and stops anything negative.

  • Do this exercise prior to your client arriving and then you can 'pop' the balloon once they have left.

An interesting exercise is to also try this whilst you are in a group of friends. See if they react when you 'pop' the balloon in their presence.  You may find that they felt it happen or experience a shift in atmosphere.

There are many books available on the topic, on how they can be used (not just for practitioners) and some very interesting and sometimes funny stories of their use - one was how a lady used a protection exercise on herself for Christmas so she didn't get dragged into the usual family arguments that inevitably happened when the family reunited and, for once, enjoyed one of the best Christmases she could remember.  However, there are some books can be a little overly involved.

Using protection exercises should never protract from the necessity to use common sense as well.

Ultimately, go with what feels right for you.
