What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-kee) is a Japanese term usually translated as "Universal Life Force". It is made up of two ideograms; Rei meaning "Universal" and Ki meaning "Life Force". However the Bhuddists refer to it differently - "The Indomitable Power of Being".

Reiki is based on the premise that there is a higher power (unlike religions, it does not then attempt to identify it) of which we are all part. People that have been attuned to Reiki are able to access this life force through the top of there head, channel it out through their hands and on to another person by either placing their hands on or hovering over their client's body.  Their client's body then accepts or rejects the healing and takes it to where their body needs it the most, either on a physical, mental, emotional or spiritual level.  So you could say, a practitioner is facilitating self-healing with the people they treat.

It is very rare for a body to reject healing and may happen if a person is very closed to the concept of Reiki and doesn't expect anything to happen.
