What is the big secret about Reiki symbols?

These symbols are to be shown only to those attuned for second degree Reiki and higher. Keeping the symbols secret is done to prevent misuse by people claiming to know Reiki when in fact they only know the symbols. Reiki is not the symbols, Reiki is the energy. 

This is synonymous to a person calling themselves a Tarot Reader, when in fact they have just memorised the card meanings from a book rather than being intuitive about what the cards mean in a reading.
